Diamonds Win Thriller in Overtime

BEDFORD, TEXAS— The Dallas Diamonds overcame an early deficit and won a teeth-clenching overtime win 23-20 Saturday night as the #1 Defense stifled the #1 Offense of Jenny Schmidt and the Kansas City Tribe. You could tell it was going to be a wild one from the start.

The Tribe won the toss and deferred but a punt to the Diamonds got away and the Tribe recovered. Later in the series, Janice Mitchell picked Schmidt’s pocket for the first INT of the contest but the Diamonds couldn’t convert. KC ran hurry up on their 2nd possession and Schmidt scrambled in from the 6 to make it 7-0. Dallas was unable to produce on their 2nd series and KC didn’t waste any time on their 3rd using Liz and Katie Sowers in tandem, pushing the ball down the field in large chunks, finally landing a 15 yard strike for the 2nd score. With :30 to go in the first it was Kansas City 14, Dallas 0. Dallas came right back on the very next possession with RB Tiffany Hill and FB Rachel May working the ball up-field. Hill finished it off by outrunning Tribe defenders from 20 yards out. But the snap on the extra point was muffed leaving the score 14-6 Tribe.

Diamonds Move on to WFA Elite Eight After Dismantling the Power

Dallas Diamonds defeat Houston Power in 1st 2011 playoff game.BEDFORD, TEXAS—The Dallas Diamonds kept the “Drive for Five” alive after another balanced attack Playoff victory against their in-state rival, the Houston Power, on Saturday night, June 25th. The Diamonds move on to the final round of 8 teams in the quest for the 2011 Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) Championship. The elimination of the Power leaves Dallas as the final Texas team in the nationwide hunt for the title as the Diamonds previously swept the 2010 champs, also a Lone Star team, during the regular season. Dallas and Houston began the 2011 Regular season on the same turf when the home team was also victorious 39-14.

Dallas Diamonds defeat Houston Power in 1st 2011 playoff game. The Diamonds utilized Defensive Back Alberta Fitcheard-Brydson on the Offensive side of the ball in the first series. Runs by Reciever Danilynn Welniak and Running Back Tiffany Hill set up a 24 yard pitch and catch from QB Monica Foster to Brydson for the first score of the evening. Diamonds led 7-0 with 11:20 to go in the first. An initial 3 and out series by the Power and the Diamonds capped their 2nd series with a 3 yard burst by Hill for the 2nd score and a 14-0 lead before the end of the first quarter.

Diamonds Preparing for Playoffs Following Shutout

BEDFORD, TEXAS—The Dallas Diamonds closed out the 2011 regular season by travelling South to Austin to take on the Outlaws Saturday night, June 18th. The second meeting between these two teams was a little more one-sided as the Diamonds came away with the shutout, capping an undefeated 8-0 season with a 56-0 win. The game featured both air and ground attacks from the Offense as well as a couple of picks and fumble recoveries from the Defense to keep both sides near perfect.

The first score came with 5:11 left in the first when Laura Beddow followed a Rachel May block to pay dirt. A Monica Foster to Danilynn Welniak strike through the air for 24 yards produced the 2nd TD. Foster called her own number for the 3rd TD on a QB sneak from a couple of yards out following a Welniak run for another 24 yards that had set it up. The Outlaws first play from scrimmage on the next possession was immediately picked off by Alberta Fitcheard-Brydson and the Diamonds converted the turnover into a TD when QB Jessica Gerhart connected with Welniak again from 5 yards out later in the drive.

Diamonds Close Out 100th Game with a Victory

Diamonds defeat Mustangs in 100th game!

Dallas Diamonds defeat cross town rival Mustangs.BEDFORD, TEXAS—On Saturday, May 21st, 2011, the Dallas Diamonds achieved what only 3 other teams have in women’s full-contact professional football. This was their 100th time on the gridiron. Over the course of those 100 games, the Diamonds have won 6 Division Championships, 4 Conference Championships and won all 4 World Championship rings in the 4 times they have gone on to the title game. With a record of 85 & 15 over the 10 seasons since 2002, they have the best winning percentage (85%) in women’s football over that span. Additionally, the Diamonds produced 6 Gold Medalists who were members of TEAM USA from the first ever International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Championships held in Sweden in 2010.

For the historic 100th, the Diamonds opposed the Lone Star Mustangs – their in town rival – for the second time this season. And for the second time, the Diamonds were victorious. A grudge match of sorts, it was a low scoring flip-flop affair until the latter part of the game.

A Decade of Memories Leads to Diamonds' 100th Game

The heat of a Texas summer on a Saturday night… The smell of BBQ grills in the air… Butterflies in every stomach of the home team… The anticipation of 6600 eager faces in the stands… Ankles getting taped and pre-game speeches being written. That day in 2002 seems so long ago and also still feels like yesterday.

Dallas Diamonds

Dallas Diamonds leave the dressing room for the field. To the Houston Energy of the Women’s Professional Football League (WPFL) this game was nothing new. To the fresh-faced rookie team, the Dallas Diamonds, it was the culmination of many dreams about to all come together and take flight.

When those original Diamonds left the tunnel for the first time, little did they know of the dynasty they were about to create. The roar of the crowd was absolutely deafening. The first hits against an actual opposing team were stories being readied for future generations. And history was in the making.

Diamonds Tame Wildcats

The Dallas Diamonds retain a perfect record following their first road trip of 2011. It turned out to be a long night for the Little Rock Wildcats as the first series of the game for both teams set the tone. A Diamond kickoff to begin the game ended with a shanked 9 yard punt from the Cats on 4th and long. The first play from scrimmage for the Diamonds was a 19 yard pass from Monica Foster to Umeki Webb for the first score of the game.

As much as Jennifer King and Brittany Reinbolt tried to get something going for the Wildcats, it just wasn’t working against the Diamond D. The “Assassins” held the home team to a handful of first downs in the contest. On the next Diamond series, also the first play from scrimmage, running back Tiffany Hill broke loose around the right side for a 44 yard dash to pay dirt. The score was 14-0 with 8:26 remaining in the first quarter.

Diamonds Corral the Outlaws

Diamonds battle the Austin Outlaws May 7.BEDFORD, TEXAS—The Dallas Diamonds remain undefeated after the Dallas Diamonds met the Austin Outlaws in a Texas battle Saturday night. For the first time in 2011, Austin made the road trip to battle their in-state rival Diamonds. Dallas came out flat on the first series going 3 and out and following the punt, Austin made them pay with a 65 yard run from scrimmage on 1st down by #24 Shadona Hurd for the 1st TD of the game. This certainly lit a spark under both teams. Dallas responded with a rushing td from Rachel May with 8 seconds left in the first. The extra point by Emily Williams was no good setting the score at 7-6 Austin. In the 2nd, Hurd burned the Dallas defense again for a 60+ yard td run around the left side on a 3rd and 1. The Diamonds responded with a Williams field goal to make it 14-9 Austin.

Vets Send Ponies Out to Pasture

Scoreboard says it all, Diamonds over Mustangs 16-6.BEDFORD, TEXAS—In the end, all that matters is the scoreboard. Following the highly anticipated hometown matchup that was 3 years in the making, when it was all said and done Saturday night (April 30), the scoreboard read Dallas Diamonds 16, Lone Star Mustangs 6. The veteran Diamonds remain undefeated in 2011 and lead the American Conference South Central Division.

There were a few jitters to begin the game as both offenses seemed to be slow finding any sort of a groove. Both teams went 3 and out on their first couple of possessions. The Diamonds finally got something going when Emily Williams put one through the uprights from 32 yards out for the first points on the board and the Diamonds led 3-0 with 2:45 left in the 1st quarter.

Diamonds vs. MustangsShowdown Saturday Night in DFW

BEDFORD, TEXAS— Question: When is a game played on the home field not a home game? Answer: This Saturday night when the Dallas Diamonds take on their cross town rivals the Lone Star Mustangs for the first time ever. The Diamonds, playing since 2002 and 4x Champions, have never met the Mustangs in competition as Dallas just joined the younger Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) this season.

In this particular game of inter-division play, the Diamonds are scheduled as the visiting team and as such will be on the visitor’s side of their very own home field for the first time. So the battle for bragging rights at Pennington Field in Bedford is at stake. The Diamonds encourage all of their fans to support their favorite team by filling the stadium with Purple and joining the champs on the South side of the field. The view from the stands may be different but the final result of the game will be the same - one more notch in the win column for the Diamonds!

The next Diamond home game will be on May the 7th versus the Austin Outlaws but the location will change for this one game. For game location and time information, please visit www.dallasdiamondsfootball.com, facebook.com/dallasdiamondsfootball.

“Finnish-ing” Touch Reveals a True Gem at Home

BEDFORD, TEXAS— When the words "Full-Contact Football" are tossed around, typically many minds tilt directly towards men’s football and even more typically to the NFL. If the addition of American Rules Football is tacked on to that, rarely, if ever would one think of the sport being played in a country where Pesäpallo (reminiscent of baseball) is the national sport. However, as the sport grows in all corners of the world, the tide is beginning to turn and luckily for the Diamonds, a special part of that has found the way to Dallas.

Back in the summer of 2010, a handful of Diamonds were fortunate and talented enough to represent the United States in an International competition in Stockholm, Sweden, as part of Team USA. This historic, first ever Women’s Full-Contact NFL Rules Football World Championship competition also included teams from Canada, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Finland. When it was all said and done, Team USA was victorious and brought home the Gold.

For Immediate Release:

HISTORIC UNIFICATION OF WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
EXETER, CA --- In an unprecedented panorama of unity, the most successful franchises in women's football have come together for one collective platform. For the first time in history, the best teams in the sport now reside under one umbrella: The Women's Football Alliance. This development takes effect immediately and will exhibit for the 2011 season beginning in April. Joining teams include: Bay Area Bandits, Boston Militia, Chicago Force, Dallas Diamonds, DC Divas, Kansas City Tribe, New York Sharks,  Pittsburgh Passion, and the San Diego Surge. They will accompany current top WFA teams such as the Philadelphia Liberty Belles, Lone Star Mustangs, St. Louis Slam, and the West Michigan Mayhem.

Both on and off the field, these organizations exemplify the most flourishing women's football operations, victorious records, business growth, and marketing exposure of the last decade. 11 National Championships. 14 Conference Titles. 30 Division Championships. 28 members of the Gold-Medal winning Team USA. 12 philanthropic youth programs. 5 Governor, Mayor, and City Council declarations. 4 feature films. 3 history museum exhibits and Hall of Fame inductions. 1 Emmy Award nomination. Over 8,250 community events for charity. Cumulative media exhibition on NBC Sports, ESPN, Fox Sports, ABC, CNN, CBS, Comcast Sports, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and Sports Illustrated in addition to thousands of publications in every major metropolitan region.

In the preceding decade women's football has been segmented into multiple leagues, fragmenting the highest talent pool and separating the resources required to move the sport forward. This 2011 unification and landmark growth structure echoes that of Women's Basketball and Women's Tennis. In addition to
delivering fans the most competitive match-ups seen to date, this is an imperative threshold to creating a sustainable and blossoming future for the sport.

"This is an exciting time for women's football and the WFA. With 62 teams across the country working together for a common goal, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. We are looking forward to one of the most competitive seasons in women’s football history," said Jeff King, WFA President.

The Women's Football Alliance is a full-contact American football league comprised of 62 teams across the United States and Mexico. From Florida to Oregon and from New England to California, the WFA is the largest and fastest growing league in America. For more information, visit www.womensfootballalliance.com.
