Prepare to see some rough-cut gems when the Dallas Diamonds, back-to-back national champs of the Women's Professional Football League, hit the field Saturday. Hey, tough guy. You probably don't believe that the teams of the Women's Professional Football League can be as rough-and-tumble as those in the boys club. Well, consider that in 2005, the Dallas Diamonds, North Texas' undefeated-for-two-consecutive-years WPFL squad, crushed one team so severely that the opponents quit in the third quarter. Seriously. Members of that challenging team (we won't mention names, but the city rhymes with "lyracuse") were so physically beat down, they had to forfeit. Apparently, too much pain means no gain. At another game, the Diamonds whipped a scoreless team by 90 points. "It wasn't any fun," says Diamonds defensive end Ingrid Mitchell, aka "Tiny." These Diamonds, who begin their fifth season Saturday and are vying for a third consecutive national championship, are perfectly cut and without flaw. So ditch your bias against women in a "real man's" sport, and remember that Diamonds are forever. -- Mark Lowry Dallas Diamonds vs.
