Hey. I'm Lauren. I am 21 yrs old. I have always dreamed of playing football since I was a kid. I'm about 5'2" and 260 lbs, roughly. I know running is a huge part of football but where I lack in speed my strength make up for it big time. I guess what I'm trying to say here is, should I try out? Would I even have a chance of making the cut?

Thanks

We are set for this year, but if you are strong you could be a line man... with that said, you are going to have to run a lot, IE be in decent physical shape. So if you are interested, you need to start hitting a gym now. As a Big Ole Girl myself, I like the eliptical, it is the most challenging cardio and it is easy on the knees and ankles. Also hit the weights, what you lack on height you could gain in even more strengh.

Hey thanks BrickHouse. I think thats what all i needed was a bit of encouragement. I know about the elliptical all too well, I've heard stories, lol. If things go to plan this year, I definitely want to try out. Feel free to give me some pointers

Something else you need to do is follow the website for updates. The front page will always tell you when tryouts will be.

As a fan let me tell you we will support and back anyone. We really are a big ol' weird family.

I want to reiterate Coach Brick's advice:

Being a BOG is more about strength and less about speed. HOWEVER, no matter what position, you have to have stamina. A team will not get to the Championships with players that are as strong as an ox or as fast as a cheeta if they putter out within 30 minutes to an hour of activity...this is where cardio is important.

Joining the team stamina-strong is GREAT, but NOT a deal breaker (it can fairly easily be built up). A deal breaker would be the newbie with football potential who quits her own dream before giving her body a chance to catch up to it.

I was 290+ lbs. at my heaviest football weight. Yeah, I know what it is like and I know that it can be hard. So, those of you who came out to mini-camp, I want to see you at tryouts. You can do it, YOU ARE DOING IT!

Elliptical, elliptical, elliptical --- If strength comes naturally, focus (for now) on what doesn't, STAMINA.

~ Kym (#75 OL-Tackle)

If you sprint the length of the field, do NOT stop 5 yards short of completing your 110 --- THAT could be a dream killer!
